York Beach: Summer Hot Spot

Maine

Cape Neddick Lighthouse (Nubble Lighthouse)–Old York Village, Maine.

Notably, York Beach, Maine is a magnet for families in the summer. Composed of three beaches—Long Sands Beach, Short Sands Beach, and Harbor Beach—each area offers many unique activities. For example, Long Sands Beach, stretches across two miles of sugary white sand. The beach is a hot spot for die-hard surfers. Also, it is conveniently in walking distance from hotels, homes, and resorts—including Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices—as well as restaurants and shops. Convenience stores line the shore for beach-day supplies, including cameras to snap pictures of the beautiful Cape Neddrik and the Nubble Lighthouse.

Short Sands Beach, as the name suggests, is a small quarter of a mile beach, however, lacks no less in activities than larger beaches. With fabulous dining, arcades, amusement parks, playground areas, and shops, it is a child’s paradise. York’s Wild Kingdom, Maine’s largest zoo and amusement park are only a couple of minutes away. Filled with hundreds of species of animals, the zoo offers intellectual entertainment while the amusement park is pure fun. York’s Wild Kingdom offers 22 rides including bumper cars, a Ferris wheel, and roller coasters. York Harbor Beach is rather simpler. The beach is lined with its own restaurants and stores, but is a particularly good choice for long walks and relaxing. York Beach itself also offers plenty of activities for adults. From nightlife, to live bands, and events, York Beach is flourishing during the warmer seasons, but unquestionably an experience any time of year.

Kennebunkport: Non-stop Festivities

Kennebunkport, Maine is favored year-round. While its own beach, Colony Beach, is adored by fishers and unique for its rocky shores, the area is home to many more sights. If you are a history buff, you will feel right at home in Kennebunkport. Local museums hold beautiful collections of historical artifacts. Nott House and Brick Store Museum are fantastic. Boat Tours allow you to glimpse at whales and other sea creatures, while experiences fishing or lobster excursions. Scenic sailing cruises, on the other hand, simply show you some of Maine’s most beautiful areas. Although you can kayak, bike, or canoe through several areas yourself.

Nevertheless, exciting events give Kennebunkport a year-round-feel. From the Memorial Day Parade to the Kennebunkport Festival in the summer, and to Halloween events and the Kennebunk Harvest Fest in the fall, Kennebunkport is always planning something. Indeed, winter is naturally time for Santa Claus, Christmas shows, caroling, and chocolate fests. Notably, even Valentine’s Day gets its own town-wide celebration. Simply put, there is always something to celebrate in Kennebunkport.
